You know the drill: someone posts a gorgeous lead magnet, you hand over your email like it's nothing, the PDF lands in your inbox, and you think, "I'll actually do this one." Then it sits in your downloads folder for three months next to your 2023 tax docs and a screenshot of a recipe you never made.
I do this too. I love a good freebie. I will download it with full intention and zero follow-through, because the moment I realize I either have to print it (paper guilt is real) or load it into GoodNotes and actually set up my iPad like a responsible adult, I've already moved on.
The friction is the problem, and it's completely fixable.
The freebies that actually get used are the ones people can fill in right where they open them. No printing, no apps, no extra steps. Just: open, click, type, done. That's why every lead magnet we build now is fillable by design, using Google Docs so there's nothing to download, nothing to install, and nothing to lose.
And yes, they're still beautifully designed. Canva design is one of our most popular services, from branded social templates to full lead magnet suites, and fillable lead magnets are the piece we're most proud of. Pretty and functional, as it turns out, are not mutually exclusive.
If your current lead magnet is a pretty PDF that nobody's actually completing, the format is working against your content, and your content deserves better than that. This month we're talking about all of it: the problem, the fix, and what changes when your freebie actually gets used.
